Subject: Urgent Action Needed to Address the Genocide in Gaza and the Brutal Treatment of Palestinian Prisoners.
On Solidarity with Gaza and Palestinian Prisoners, we, the undersigned, call for immediate and decisive action to confront the severe humanitarian and human rights crisis unfolding in Gaza and the inhumane treatment of Palestinian prisoners.
The Genocide in Gaza:
– Since October 7, 2023, Gaza has been subjected to relentless Israeli bombardments from air, land, and sea. This ongoing assault has resulted in a catastrophic humanitarian crisis, with severe shortages of medical supplies and essential services.
– Deaths: Over 39,445 Palestinians reported killed, including 569 in the West Bank.
– Injuries: Approximately 91,073 reported injured.
Damage and Displacement:
– Housing Units Destroyed: Over 70,000 housing units in Gaza.
– Displaced: 1.9 million people displaced in Gaza.
The Brutal Treatment of Palestinian Prisoners:
– Palestinian prisoners are enduring severe abuse and inhumane conditions in Israeli detention facilities. They face torture, starvation, sexual assaults, and extrajudicial killings. Reports indicate that 60 prisoners have been killed through torture.
– Currently, there are 9,945 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails. Among these:
— 3,432 are administrative detainees
— 270 are children
— 85 are women
— Additionally, thousands of detainees from Gaza are held separately, with 1,548 of them labeled by the occupation as “illegal fighters.”
Demands of the petition signatories:
1.Immediate Ceasefire and Humanitarian Access: Demand an immediate end to hostilities and the blockade of Gaza, ensuring the protection of civilians and unfettered access to humanitarian aid.
2.End to Arbitrary Detention and Torture: Call for the immediate release of all Palestinian prisoners held without charge and an end to all forms of torture and ill-treatment in Israeli prisons.
3.International Accountability: Urge the ICC and ICJ to thoroughly investigate and hold accountable those responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity, including the genocide in Gaza and the brutal mistreatment of prisoners.
4.Urgent Humanitarian Support: Call for immediate international assistance to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, including the provision of medical supplies, food, and infrastructure support.
We urge the international community to act with urgency and uphold the principles of justice and human rights. It is imperative that the world unites to end these grave injustices and work towards a just and lasting peace for the Palestinian people.
